M a's Bobbin Works, Inc. has been a wholesaler, specializing in refurbishing bobbins and other mill relics into decorative accessories, for over thirty years. Our workshop is located on the coast of Maine, in the area where the great mills of New England produced fabric and clothing during the Industrial Revolution. Hundreds of these mills operated well into the 20th century, but with too much competition, the price of textiles decreased, forcing mills to close. Many of these buildings were abandoned and their machinery and equipment left behind. Other mills survived, but as they modernized their operation, wooden spindles, shuttles and bobbins were replaced with cheaper, plastic versions. Now, Ma makes it her business to find these relics, refurbish them and distribute them to you!
B obbins lend themselves to lots of imaginative uses including candlesticks, pedestals and even jump rope handles! They are simply a pleasure to own. The years bobbins served in the industry are now being rewarded with appreciation and a peaceful retirement. They are becoming more and more valuable as they become increasingly rare and sought after. Antique bobbins are nostalgic and decorative reminders our great industrial heritage.
